47¢ buys you info on a high school student

Not sure what to say about this other than yikes.

It’s weird that I’m surprised by this and not surprised at the same time. I’ve never assumed that the College Board sent out the students’ information for free, although I’d bet many students and parents think that. They are a “non-profit” after all. But I did assume, wrongly it seems, that colleges would use this information with the best interests of the students in mind. Clearly I’m naive in that assumption.

So I’m going to throw this link out to my students today and see what sort of conversations it starts. If nothing else it’s a good conversation starter on privacy.
