The Door Principle

I came across this on Reddit this morning, so I can’t take credit for the idea. But I think this perfectly sums up the good and bad parts of teaching.

A quick summary, and just in case the thread gets removed.

Think about the two sides to your classroom door. You probably like everything that happens on one side, the side that faces your room. It’s where you teach, interact with students, basically all the fun stuff.

But the other side, the school side, is where the less fun stuff happens. Faculty meetings, admin coming up with new policies, emailing parents.

tl;dr: Focus on your side of your door, don’t worry too much about the other.
